March Madness – play-in game

honestly… does anyone actually watch the play-in game besides sports analysts, the university student section, and the players parents?  I always feel sorry for these teams because they know that, even if they win this game, they have little to no shot at going anywhere in the tournament because they are fed to the lions {in this case… the cardinals} right out of the gate.  So here’s to you Moorehead State and Alabama State… at least one of you will be able to say you got 1 win in the tournament. :)

MARCH MADNESS

if you know me at all, you’d know that I LOVE Basketball and I LOVE March Madness.  My 2.5 year old son Nic has come to love it as well.  So, in honor of March Madness every year, we go out and buy a new Nerf basketball hoop.  This was the first year that he can actually shoot it at the hoop at the top of the door.  This is an exciting, monumental occasion for me.  So what did I do?  I documented it.  This is what happens when the perfect storm of me, nic, basketball, and march madness all collide.  enjoy.

it’s finally time to admit it…

well… it’s finally time to admit that I’ve lost a step or two as it relates to basketball.  I try to do moves that once came with ease only to find myself in the wrong position.  I try to elevate and realize that I couldn’t squeeze an ant between my foot and the ground.  And after all is said and done… I feel like I’ve just run a marathon.  I hate to say it… but I’m feeling… what’s the word… Oh ya… OLD!  I know, I know… I’m only 27 and look like I’m about maybe 20… but athletically I feel out of my element.  But I will keep pushing… keep playing.  Why?  Because 1) I love to play and 2) I have a passion for competition.

3 on 3… oakbrook style

so our small group bball challenge turned into a summer long 3 on 3 basketball league.  I just hope I don’t end up on an old man 3 on 3 highlight reel… YIKES.  @ least they can shoot! :)

pathetic Basketball

tonights NBA finals game was a complete joke.  Here’s what I mean.  The Lakers had a 24 pt. lead at one point only to lose the game.  Why did they lose?  was it because of the Celtics awesome defense?  If you watched the game… you shouldn’t come up with that answer.  Was it the Lakers pathetic defense?  Partly.  In my opinion… It was the fact that in the 3 and 4 quarter the Lakers decided to stand around on offense which created terrible spacing, easy defensive assignments for the Celtics, and terrible shots with the shot clock winding down.  If you watched the first half… you saw a dominant Lakers team moving without the basketball, not waiting for Kobe Bryant to “make something happen” and they were an offensive machine.  The fact that Kobe barely scored was evidence enough that they should have stuck with it.  But, as we’ve all seen before, they started standing around and hoping that their lead would hold and that Kobe would pick up the team, carry them completely on his back, and win the game for them like he did in game 3.  NOT THIS TIME.  Boys and Girls out there who want to learn what real basketball is all about?  DON’T WATCH THE NBA FINALS!  It’s sad that the thing most little boys aspire to in basketball is fundamentally terrible.  Learn to move without the basketball.  Learn good angles.  Learn to play solid defense.  Learn when to shoot and when to pass.  Learn what good court spacing and awareness is all about.  THEN you will BE LIKE MIKE!

NBA finals tonight…

personally I would love to see Lakers v. Celtics… so that begs the question:
