TXT – a 2 wk advntr in God’s Word

For the next two weeks I’ll be teaching in Oakbrook Church’s main service a series called TXT.  The whole idea behind it is this: “If God sent you a text message, would you read it?”  We got the idea from Northpoint church in Alpharetta, Ga.  I’ll give you a sneak peak into week one:  Text messaging is taking over the communication world.  It is becoming a huge phenomenon in our culture.  In 2005 there were over 55 million cell phone users and over 37 Billion text messages sent and received.  You can just imagine what those statistics are today… 3 years later.  If you text, then you know one thing to be true: WE ALWAYS READ OUR TEXT MESSAGES… without excuse.  We even excuse ourselves from face to face conversations to read our text messages.  No one ever says “I got your text… but I’m just not a big reader… so I don’t know what it said.”  If this is true, then why do we make that excuse when it comes to reading God’s text message, the Bible?  This weekend I am going to explore 6 MAJOR LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCES that happen when you engage, interface, and interact with God’s Word.  RYB!

The Dark Knight_ my review

I want to start off by saying… I am in NO WAY a movie expert or a great movie critic… so if you don’t agree with me… It’s okay.  That being said… I LOVED this movie.  The one thing I have against this is just a minor thing… I don’t like the voice Bale uses when he is Batman… other than that… this movie was BY FAR the best BATMAN movie EVER MADE.  There were so many great one liners and plot turns… it kept you engaged and guessing all the way through it.  HEATH LEDGER, IMHO surpassed that of Jack Nicholson as the Joker.  I found him to be WAY more believable.  There were times when I forgot that he was playing a role and was sucked in to the demented, twisted mind of the Joker.  If you haven’t seen this yet… YOU NEED TO.  I don’t care if your a BATMAN fan or not.  The acting in this movie was AMAZING.  I would pay the $8.50 {yup… movies in Kokomo are only $8.50} to go see that again.

BIGSTUF… it’s just around the corner!

we leave for BIGSTUF camp this friday night @ 8.30pm.  It is such an awesome time.  We actually take a charter bus for 18 hours through the night and arrive @ panama city beach, Florida on saturday @ around 2pm.  If you’ve never been to Bigstuf… then you should totally check it out.  It is an amazing week.  God moves huge in not only the lives of teenagers, but also in the lives of the leaders that are there.  I am looking forward to it.  Tonight we have our meeting with our leaders for bigstuf… I can’t believe that I actually have an agenda for the meeting tonight other than “here’s the info and your room list.”  It should be a great meeting.  check back periodically for BIGSTUF updates!

for the love of the game…

so my son Nicholas LOVES baseball.  we play it almost every day.  He has a little glove and a ball that he loves to “pitch” to daddy and I’ll hit with a blue plastic bat.  It is the best game in town.  Anyway… I told him “Nic, let’s watch a baseball game on TV” and he immediately grabbed his glove, ball, and hat and jumped up on the couch and started pounding his fist in his glove and said “YES… BASEBALL GAME… YES!”  I love this kid!
