After the wrapping paper and bows…

well, Christmas is over and all the presents have been unwrapped and the bows have been placed on the baby’s head :-).  the toys are being played with, the books are being read, the clothes are being worn, and the candy from the stockings is disappearing faster than it appeared.  it seems like a huge whirlwind every year… but every year that our kids get older, the more fun this whole christmas experience gets.  My most precious memory this year was during the Christmas Eve service, when my almost 2-year-old Jonathon shouted out during the candle-lit part of the evening “HAPPY DIRT-DAY DESUS!”  {that’s 1.75 year old for “happy birthday Jesus!”}  Sometimes it is so easy to get “Wrapped Up” (pun totally intended) in all the gifts and pageantry of the season that we neglect what it is we are really celebrating.  At least my almost two-year-old get’s it.  What an awesome time of celebration this year was.  HAPPY DIRT-DAY DESUS!

Christmas Eve 2010

Just wanted to take some time on this Christmas Eve and wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.  Christmas is a great time to gather around with family and loved ones and celebrate what God did through the birth of His Son Jesus over 2000 years ago.  so in the middle of all the presents and ribbons and food, take some time to thank God for the birth of His Son.  Merry Christmas everyone!

Great Quotes

“Grace doesn’t mean that God gives a big thumbs-up to our faults, sinful hearts, and unbiblical living.  He doesn’t condone our messiness.  Sin is an ugly act of disobedience to God’s ways.  But we all do it.  We have all fallen short of God’s ideal (Romans 3:23).  But when we give our messiness to God, He redeems it.  That’s the real gift of grace!  God doesn’t encourage us to screw up; He saves us after we screw up.  God takes all our sin and, over time, completely transforms us into holiness.  God isn’t just into fine-tuning our manners.  He wants to renovate our total character.  The writer of Hebrews lays it on the line: “What God wants is for us to be made holy” (10:10).  That can only be accomplished if we are willing to connect with God.  Once we do, and we make it a customary and recurrent priority, our messiness leads to holiness.” – Doug Fields, ReFuel pg. 79

Guitar corner: new gear

if you know me well, then you know that I love playing the electric guitar.  I spend a lot of my “free” time playing my guitars.  I have been looking a while now for an overdrive that 1) would be a quality overdrive with a realistic, natural sound & 2) wouldn’t be the same thing that all of my other friends who play guitar have.  Everyone has the Fulltone fulldrive 2, Boss Blues Driver modded by keeley, Boss super overdrive, and Ibanez TS 808.  So I have searched high and low for one that would meet those criteria and… be under $100.  I bought a Danelectro Cool Cat Drive pedal about a year ago for like $20 on ebay that has proven to be a SWEET high gain overdrive… but I need one that will serve for those mid-boosted TS sounds.  I think I have finally found it.  It is the GFS ( Twin Overdrive:

it combines the sound of a vintage Ibanez TS 808 in the boost channel with the modern sounds of a modded 90’s Ibanez TS 9 with more gain in the overdrive channel.  you can stack the channels for full on Distortion and screaming leads.  It’s probably a lot like the fulldrive but with more diversity.  the only pedals I’ve seen like it are the Visual Sound Double Trouble and the Seymore Duncan Twin Tube pedal.  It’s only $67 before shipping.  I think this is going to be it… but then again, I always say that 🙂

My Favorite Christmas Movie

for the better part of 12 years now I have had one Christmas movie that I have absolutely loved… A Christmas Story.  I think it probably has to do with the fact that 1) I grew up always wanting very specific things for Christmas & 2) because I always had a very creative imagination.  I totally loved the “daydream” sequences because that is exactly how I was when I was little.  When I was 19 or 20, I got a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas from my aunt and uncle because of my love for this movie.  I know this movie isn’t for everyone… but I love it!
